If the area between West Twin Lake and East Twin Lake gets too "tight" or aesthetics are
"ruined"in fitting the Paul Bunyan Trail next to the new roadway, the City requests MnDOT
consider working with them (and others; the DNR for example) on an "off TH 371" trail
corridor.
6. There is an existing water access to West Twin Lake on the west side of TH 371 north of
CSAH 29. There is some question as to whether or not, according to DNR regulations and
size of lake before an access is considered, this is/can be a"legal" access.
What does MnDOT know about this?
If a new access is considered as part of this project, there would be more space for this access
by using the old TH 371 roadbed.
This area is already being used as an access (some say as an"unsafe" access). While other
sites may need to be looked at,the use of this `abandoned' highway R/W should be looked
into.
The lake access would have more room due to highway alignment being moved to the east.
The access road could then roughly follow the abandoned TH 371 back south to CSAH 29
and not intersect directly with TH 371.
7. While the East Twin Lake Association likes the plan as it is, consider - for safety,
minimization of access/decision points,and minimization of U-turns reasons-deleting three
intersections (the right in - right out for West Twin Lake Drive, the right in- right out for
Pow Wow Point Road, and the full access intersection for Olson Road).
CAMy DocumentsWity ClerMIGHWAY 371\Comments to MnDOT-100804-memo.doc
