City Council Minutes Page 7
September 7, 2004
--------------------------
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT TO HIRE A FIREFIGHTER TO REPLACE LANCE
SCHMIDT. COUNCIL MEMBER PFEIFFER SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
7.1. Request for Variance to Fire Code —American Legion
The Clerk indicated that the American Legion is requesting a variance
from an order of the State Fire Marshal regarding the sprinkling of the
building. The Clerk indicated that the City does not have a building
inspector, nor does it enforce the State Building Code. The Council
discussed the issue and did not feel comfortable endorsing the variance.
The Fire Chief recommended that the Council defer the matter to the State
Fire Marshal.
COUNCIL MEMBER JOHNSON MOVED TO DEFER THE VARIANCE
FOR A SPRINKLER SYSTEM FOR THE AMERICAN LEGION TO THE
STATE FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE. COUNCIL MEMBER PFEIFFER
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
9. Water/Wastewater Supervisor's Report
Brett Twardy presented the water/wastewater report.
9.1. Farm Lease Agreement
Brett Twardy presented an updated farm lease agreement for the rental of
the City's spray irrigation site. It was the consensus of the Council to have
the lease reviewed by the City Attorney and to have the lease run one
year rather than seven years.
The Council requested Brett to see if the $3,000 yearly lease fee was fair
or if it should be raised.
9.2. Water/Wastewater Personnel
Brett Twardy discussed some options for covering Tina Nolden's
responsibilities while she is away on military leave. He recommended not
hiring a replacement at this time but to get some help from the City of
Breezy Point for one weekend per month and from the City's maintenance
employees. Brett indicated that another option would be to hire a student
on a temporary basis. The Fire Chief indicated he could possibly be on
call also.
