** Dave Guenther called and said they are going to give welcome bags to participants
in the Antique convention. They will be preparing 100 bags. A lure book will go in each
bag along with any advertising that any business is willing to put in. They have gifts so
far from Mills GM, Shamp's Meat, TDS &USLink. We want to represent our
community well. Anything you can give like a pen, pencil, magnet, something you're
your name on it would be appreciated. Please bring our gift, coupon or whatever to the
Chamber Office by next Wednesday the 10. The club will be packing bags at their
meeting that night. **
At the Board Meeting(Wednesday Jan. 7)we decided to pick dates for all the parties
next year so they are decided plent1 early. We are canceling the Christmas/Winter party.
Spring Fling—April 15U'or 22n at Windows on Whitefish(Piney Ridge)
Fall Get-Together/Annual Meeting—September 16
Christmas Party—December 2
Retail Committee—Darlene Schaefer—The Breakfast with Santa went very well this
year. It is easier being the 2nd annual than the first. The Legion was wonderful to work
with. They donated the food, so we didn't have that expense this year. The next thing
coming up is Mardi Gras. It is also the second annual. She encouraged everyone to be
thinking about costumes as there will be a King& Queen chosen again.
Marketing Committee—None of the three members were here, but Ryan said marketing
is progressing. The skeleton of the web site is close to done now,and the dialog needs to
be put in. Hopefully it should be done in close to a month.
'-1
Student Chamber—Becky Swanson—They raised $300 with which they adopted a family
for Christmas(a single mom with 3 young sons)and bought presents for them. They
enjoyed shopping and wrapping and signing Santa's name on the presents. They also did
bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Now they are focusing on Habitat for Humanity.
There are now 32 members in the Student Chamber. They received a well deserved
round of applause from the group.
Old Business:
Highway 731 Survey Results—There was a 68%return of the surveys. The board
decided not to put analysis on the facts. The numbers in the paper-weren't exactly right
and will be in next weeks Echo. The survey results will be given to MN DOT as they are
without any interpretation so we won't seem to be trying to slant the opinion in any way.
The numbers show that the majority of members want it thru town. The draft EIS is done
and MN DOT wants a decision from the City Council by February 9d'stating their
preference for location of the highway. The Echo has been doing a good job of clearing
up rumors. There are many of them and there are still a lot of questions. The draft EIS is
available on the MN Dot web site. There aren't any details about design at this time.
Web Site—I Like It Like That said their part is done. We will need to put in all the
information.
Announcements—Upcoming Events
2
