July 29, 2005 Page 3 of 8
Pequot Lakes
Government Drive Proposal
5. There will be diagonal parking on both sides of the through lanes.
Diagonal parking limits the crossing movements of 90-degree parking and will hopefully
provide for the possibility of smoother and safer traffic flow along Government Drive.
Costs to be paid for from a combination of special assessments to the abutting property
owners and from the City Street budget.
6. Concrete curb and gutter will be placed on the east side.
Concrete curb and gutter will also be placed on the west side with (flume)openings as
needed for stormwater to flow into the proposed grassed swales.
Costs to be paid for from a combination of special assessments to the abutting property
owners and from the City Street budget.
7. There will be a concrete sidewalk, roughly the same width as present, on the east side
between the buildings and the concrete curb and gutter.
There will be no sidewalk on the west side. However, with the Paul Bunyan Trail on this
side, there will be periodic"crossings"from the parking pavement to the Trail.
Costs to be paid for from a combination of special assessments to the abutting property
owners and from the City Street budget.
8. Regarding aesthetic and decorative improvements, such improvements will have to be
coordinated with and fit with the rest of the improvements.
For example, the anticipated storm drainage swales on the west side will not fit with the
existing wooden rail fencing.
Sidewalk widths would have to work with possible light poles, benches, and planters
while somehow meshing with each property's storefront look (awnings, color scheme,
etc.).
If light poles were put on the sidewalk, conduit has to be properly located.
Considering all of the above, these improvements will not initially include aesthetic and
decorative features.
It is anticipated such features would be incorporated on the west side of the corridor to
coordinate with the Trailside Park while not "clashing"with individual storefronts.
Any costs (if there were any)would be paid for from the City Park budget/fund.
CADocuments and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKB\Govemment Drive proposal-July 29
2005.doc
