July 29, 2005 Page 2 of 8
Pequot Lakes
Government Drive Proposal
2. Storm drainage will be split into two halves, with CSAH 11/Main Street basically being
the point separating the two.
For the south half, an infiltration basin will have to be located somewhere on this end to
handle the discharge of stormwater.
For the north half, the existing storm sewer system under the Trailside Park will most
likely need to be upgraded. The existing discharge location/infiltration basin may also
need to be modified.
For both halves, the initial approach will be to channel the storm drainage in curb and
gutter on the east side and in grassed swales on the west side.
Storm sewer pipe and catch basins will be extended only enough to collect the
stormwater either in the gutter or in the swales so as to minimize its spread in the streets
or in the swales.
Storm sewer pipe will also be designed to include the potential for future extensions to
the east.
Costs to be paid for from the City Storm Water Utility fund.
3. There will be two 12-foot wide through lanes, one in each direction.
There will be no dedicated left turn or right turn lanes as the proposed parking will use
up the width needed for such turn lanes.
Costs to be paid for from a combination of special assessments to the abutting property
owners and from the City Street budget.
4. As mentioned above, there are no turn lanes anticipated due to this space being taken
up by parking.
MnDOT's latest layout shows a concrete center median extending from TH 371 back to
the east on CSAH 11/Main Street, stopping just shy of Government Drive.
Thus, the CSAH 11/Main Street intersection would look similar to what it does today.
However, considering some computer models of future traffic, the City should not be
surprised that this median may be extended further east sometime in the future resulting
in both the south leg and north leg of Government Drive being a right in —right out at
CSAH 11/Main Street.
Such a future CSAH 11/Main Street center median cutting across Government Drive
would have to be coordinated with MnDOT and the County.
This proposed layout will work with a possible future right in —right out.
CADocuments and settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKB\Government Drive proposal-July 29
2005.doc
