PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD
MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 269 2005 MEETING
The meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson. Members in
attendance were Hoefs, Benson, Greer, Murphy, Rach, Malecha,Nelson,Peterson, and
Messerschmidt. Greer,Murphy, and Rach were welcomed as new members to our group.
Murphy has been a former member and was reappointed to our board for 2005.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by Messerschmidt,
second by Greer, motion passed.
The fourth quarter fire call report was discussed. There were 15 calls. By types, there
were 6 motor vehicle accident/rescue, 2 structure fires, 2 fire alarms, and 1 each of an
assist police, assist medical, a natural gas leak, a gasoline spill, and a outdoor refuse pile
fire. By location, there were 8 calls to Pequot Lakes, 4 to Breezy Point, 2 to the City of
Jenkins, and 1 to Jenkins Township. The total calls for 2004 were 62.There were 78 in
2003.
The fourth quarter training report includes 4 hours of live house burn, 3 hours of rural
water supply, and 1 hour each of pump truck operation, ventilation, SCBA operation,
`., driver's training, and accountability. The total hours for the quarter were 12.
Fire bills sent during the fourth quarter was 12 that totaled $5456.00 The total for the
year 2004 was 41 bills that amounted to $15856.00.
The financial report was for the entire 2004 year. There was no year end balance of the
fire fund listed. The office supply number was not correct. The software was probably
listed in that account, but should have been listed in travel/conference schools as a
training expense. All fire contracts have been paid for 2004. The last payments for the
$12066.50 were made after year's end. Greer asked about the$10000 donation for SCBA
that was made in 2003, which was not accounted for. We are still not for sure what
happened with that. We have not received any FEMA grants as yet. Messerschmidt
motioned to approve the financial report, second by Greer, motion passed.
The dry hydrant project for 2004 was completed. We have been awarded another grant
for 2005 for the same amount as in 2004. The DNR will reimburse us in matching funds
with a$4600.00 limit. We plan to work with Jenkins and Loon lake Townships.
The Civil defense warning siren for the city has failed and is not repairable. The city
plans to have a new one in service by spring. The siren has been ordered and will be
located on Woodman Street. It should cover more area than the old one. The new one will
be able to be operated with a telephone call.
The fire department web page is done. The web address is www pequotlakes-mn.gov.
