CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
MONTHLY WATER/WASTEWATER REPORT
MARCH 2007
Prepared by: Tina Nolden (Water/WW Operator)
WATERPLANT:
Now that I've recharged the filter media, the manganese levels at the water plant
are back down to where they should be. From here on out, I will be doing this on an
annual basis to keep the filter working at it's full potential. And I will make certain that I
don't have any pink water going into my clearwell! I know now that it just takes an extra
backwash, or two,to keep this from happening. As well as doing it on a more regular
basis.
Feb. 14th I replaced the pump head on my potassium permanganate pump. The old
one was pretty worn out and was starting to leak. I have also replaced all of the chlorine
lines, as well as several fittings. The lines were getting old and brittle and needed to be
replaced. Hawkins recommends every three to five years. Ours made it about seven years.
WATER DISTRUBITION:
We've received four Rate-Study Proposals and have gone over all of them. We
would like to recommend Ehlers because they have a lot of experience doing rate studies
and because they are very knowledgeable of our City's finances to begin with. They have
worked with the City for many years. Our next choice would be AE2S because they are
also experienced in doing rate studies and they specialize in water and wastewater issues.
WASTEWATER:
MH#30 was backed up on March 4"'. Scott noticed it while doing rounds. He also
noticed that pump#1 at L.S. #2 hadn't run at all. I came in and helped jet from MH#29
to MH#30 and later put in some more foaming root killer. No problems occurred from
this. After that,we checked things at the L.S. and got the pumps running again. The next
day I had Karl Moon take a look at the control panel to see if it was anything electrical
causing the problem. He determined that the pump was working a lot harder than it
should have to and that the bearings could be bad or there could be something stuck in it.
That same day I also had him look at Blower#3 at the Wastewater Bldg. After some
troubleshooting,he got it running again. Later, Kurt helped me pull the pump at the L.S.
and we discovered there was a lot of hair caught up in the impeller. Kurt took the pump
apart and we removed the debris. Now the pump is working again.
