Trees had been removed, underbrush removed and stumps grubbed. <br /> Between 5 acres and 7 acres estimate of land changed by Forest Land Conversion. <br /> Staff contacted the SWCD. The MPCA is concerned with erosion control and <br /> stormwater management. Mr. Peterson is in violation of City's ordinance for <br /> Forest Land Conversion. The Ordinance allows the cutting of some trees and a <br /> Forest Land Conversion not allowed in the Shoreland zone. Mr. Peterson has <br /> applied for 2 permits to remedy the situation. Mr. Peterson stated that this <br /> clearing has just evolved. He did receive a permit for erosion control. The <br /> SWCD has inspected it. One spot where it could erode we placed a berm. The <br /> SWCD thought the clearing was only 3 to 4 acres. Mr. Peterson paced it and is <br /> about 2.5 acres. This clearing is on eastern most part of 23 acres. It is quite a <br /> ways from lake. He only planned to clear a little spot for an 8' X 8' chapel. <br /> There were a lot of poplar trees and downed poplar, and he was afraid of forest <br /> fires. He didn't realize needed a permit. He stated he may put in a garden. His <br /> Son thought it would be a good place for a recreation area. The black dirt is piled. <br /> He plans to replace black dirt and reseed. He doesn't plan for it to be utilized for <br /> anything else. No plans of developing or anything else. Picnic area, fireman play <br /> softball, and be recreation area. He didn't know he couldn't clear. He paid the <br /> After The Fact permit fee. He plans to plant fruit trees.
