The Planning Commission stated that if Mr. Van Valkenburg has the Sportsman's Show <br /> `.• again next fall,before it is advertised on the radio, he needs to come in prior for a new <br /> CUP or tell Big Mike no or have the vendors inside the structures. We want the event <br /> indoors. The City is bound by the regulations. The City needs to enforce what was <br /> approved. His tool to be able to do the things he wishes is to do Conditional Use Permits. <br /> The Planning Commission asked what has been done with Mn/DOT for blue signs? Mr. <br /> Van Valkenburg stated he has been denied. Their criteria were that the use had to be for <br /> over all good of the community. <br /> Mark Hallan stated he had talked to Mn/DOT. Resorts, B & B's and churches were the <br /> only uses allowed to have blue signs. Ruth Ann Hanson from the Chamber stated the <br /> Chamber was not aware he had requested a blue sign; she will contact Mn/DOT. Mr. <br /> Hallan had taken pictures of various blue signs that did not refer to resorts,B &B's or <br /> churches. <br /> Mr. Van Valkenburg does not own the corner lot. Placing a sign there would be an off <br /> site sign. He would need to purchase the lot. The Planning Commission stated a lot of <br /> signs have come down. Mr. Van Valkenburg stated there are temporary signs,banners, <br /> and signs on wheels all up and down the highway. <br /> Ruth Ann Hanson: Sign ordinance is too restrictive along highway. Consider being <br /> more lenient. <br /> Jaculin Peterson—give the people a break. More signage needed. <br /> Boat winterization: MPCA rules. Staff directed to get info to John Derksen. <br /> Mr. Hallan stated Mn/DOT is comparing the Crafters Market to a strip mall. Mr. Hallan <br /> suggested Mr. Van Valkenburg make new application for a blue sign and to take pictures <br /> of other signs and 300' separation distances and submit with application <br /> Gary Peterson: Corner of 168 &Mayo Lake. Blue sign indicates there are resorts and <br /> camping. There are no resorts on Mayo Lake and no camping. It is a very dangerous <br /> corner. Need to signal it. <br /> Planning Commission thanked Mr.Van Valkenburg for the nice buildings. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> a. John and Laurie Lopez, Shoreline Restoration <br /> Mr. Marohn stated the East Twin Lake Association restoration grant recipient was John <br /> and Laurie Lopez. Tom Adams, Jim Oraskovich, and Chuck Marohn met with them to <br /> discuss the improvements to restore their shoreline. They now mow close to lake. They <br /> would like to bring in some fill, do some light grading, do native plantings and some <br /> rocks to knock down wave action.
