The cabin that is to be removed may stay in place until construction is complete on the
new addition in order to store the contents during construction. Scott Pederson—Represent City on Advisory Committee.
OPEN FORUM:
Ann Beaver—Nisswa Planning Commission Chair, offered that a Chair or Vice-Chair
can vote to break a tie or to cause a tie.
NEW BUSINESS:
a. School Sign Discussion:
Rick Linnell, Pequot Lakes School Superintendent, stated that the school is interested
in placing a sign that would advertise a number of different community events. He is
looking for information on what he needs to do to get support of the Planning
Commission and the City Council. The Planning Commission stated that Lakes State
Bank was denied this type of sign for safety reasons. We would need to adjust our
Sign Ordinance to allow this. Our Ordinance states "All flashing, revolving and
intermittently lighted signs and all portable signs are prohibited, except as
specifically allowed in this section. " We cannot give a Variance for a sign. The
proposed sign exceeds the height restrictions.
Mr. Linnell stated the proposed sign would be off school property along Highway 371
in the Park area or on DNR property. That would be an issue for MN/DOT or DNR
approval. The Planning Commission suggested placing the sign on School property
on West Woodman or at the ECF building on West Lake Street. No off-sight signs
are allowed in the Sign Ordinance. There is a message board sign along County Road
11 and this sign could possibly be enhanced to include information for the school.
The Planning Commission asked Mr. Linnell to come back with a plan. Mr. Linnell
stated he was looking to see if the Planning Commission was willing to look at this.
MINUTES 5
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
November 20, 2008
