� � City Council Minutes July 3, 2012 Page 5 of 7 Council Member Akerson distributed and read changes he proposed to the sign ordinance. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO HAVE THE CITY COUNCIL CONSIDER THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE SIGN ORDINANCE. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED THE MOTION. The Clerk informed the Council that an amendment to the land use ordinance requires a public hearing. Council Members Akerson and Ryan indicated that there has been enough public input. Scott Pederson, Planning Commission Chair, stated that the issues proposed by Council Member Akerson were discussed by the Planning Commission. He noted that the Planning Commission came to a unanimous conclusion that no changes would be recommended at this time. Council Member Ryan stated that he does not understand the continued obstinacy of the Planning Commission to thwart the efforts of the businesses. Council Member Ryan stated he is in favor of the proposed changes to the sign ordinance. Mayor Adams noted that the changes that Council Member Akerson is proposing are major changes. The Clerk informed the Council that it has been past practice, as directed by Council, to have the City Attorney review ordinance amendments prior to Council consideration. She also noted that the proposed amendments are not in ordinance format. Council Member Ryan noted that he had a conversation with the City Attorney on the changes and because there has been public input and the changes are appropriate, he would waive the City Attorney review of these amendments. MOTION CARRIED 2— 1. MAYOR ADAMS OPPOSED. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED TO IMMEDIATELY PUBLISH THE REVISED ORDINANCE. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. The Clerk noted that the document presented is not in ordinance format. MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO AMEND THE MOTION TO FORWARD THE AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY ATTORNEY PRIOR TO � PUBLISHING.
