Council Agenda Item #9.3 — Roadway Turnbacks
Page 3 of 4
the County / MnDOT?" It was discussed that previous
Councils had given this impression / direction.
Tim Houle said he could come up with estimated
construction costs for any roadway sections and then apply
the State Aid and County cost participation formulas to
come up with estimated City costs.
But if — and this is a very, very big if — the City was able to
negotiate its way down to zero initial cost dollars, they
would still be faced with the above estimated maintenance,
and eventual replacement, costs.
Besides cost considerations, there are `control'
considerations with the City taking turn backs. Some
examples of this are that the City would be able to control
where driveways would intersect these turned back
segments, the widths of these roadways, whether they
would have sidewalks or trails, etc. The City would not
need to go to another authority to change something on
these turned back segments.
Council Action Requested:
1. Does the `control' that the City would have on this
corridor if they accepted it offset the added
maintenance costs?
