It should be noted that many of the road segments <br />considered for turn back would require much more effort <br />and cost - especially from a snow plowing and snow <br />removal perspective - than an average road segment <br />presently requires. In other words, the maintenance costs <br />are estimated to increase more than 17°Io. <br />Mike did acknowledge he has not calculated costs — and it <br />would be quite an exercise to do so — but he could see quite <br />an increase in the City's maintenance and capital outlay <br />budget with these additional6 miles (besides winter <br />maintenance, sweeping, crack sealing, maybe chip seals, <br />and eventually some kind of pavement replacement). <br />It was pointed out that the County has or will shortly begin <br />conversations with MnDOT on the turn back of the present <br />Hwy 371. The word we have heard from the County <br />Highway Engineer is that they want to turn this back to the <br />City, and they are asking for the City's input on how they <br />want this road to look — so the County Highway Engineer <br />can start incorporating this into his discussions with <br />MnDOT. <br />The City also needs to provide the County information on <br />other proposed turn back roadway segments. <br />The question was asked at the Committee meeting, "Does <br />the City really want to take back this present Hwy 371 from <br />
