The proposed amended site plan provides for the creation of a second beach area
approximately 150 feet in width on the easterly side of the property inside of docking system number
2, the location of such docking system having been previously approved. This second beach (in the
location proposed as a part of the original site plan) will require the removal of a minimal amount of
aquatic vegetation as the beach is located on the area where the two mobile home/trailer owners had
previously removed all aquatic vegetation except for a narrow strip between the two pads where the
second docking system is located. The lake bottom in this entire area is hard, sandy soil and will
provide excellent swimming conditions.
The second beach is required to serve the needs of resort guests, who already frequently
complain about the inadequacy of the resort's single beach. A 140 foot beach is simply not adequate
to accommodate 300 to 400 guests who may be on property in season. The addition of the second
beach will result in a total of approximately 350 to 400 feet of the 2653 of the resort's shoreline
(13%) improved with beaches and docking systems, which total footage is far below the requirements
of the Shoreland regulations, which allows up to 663.25 of the Applicant's shoreline to be improved.
(Pequot Lakes Ordinance 17-511, Subd. 4 — Screening Performance Standards for Shoreline
Commercial Property).
Shoreline and Bluff Roadway
The existing CUP provides "that the road in the bluff and shoreline setback shall be removed
and re-vegetated. An 8 foot wide walking trail may replace the road; however, all automobile traffic
shall be banned. The walking trail shall be constructed with pervious materials."
The Applicant is requesting that this section of the CUP relating to the pathway on the
easterly shoreline of the point be amended to:
6
