� <br />City Council Minutes <br />May l, 2012 <br />Page 4 of 8 <br />----------------------------- <br />also noted that if two officers had to be eliminated to accomplish the <br />proposal, it may jeopardize the contracts with the school, Jenkins <br />Township and Jenkins City. <br />Council Member Akerson noted that there is a need to have the sergeant <br />position filled to give the Chief assistance. He stated that if the City needs <br />to eliminate an officer to accomplish this, the process should be evaluated. <br />Mayor Adams stated that she is comfortable with six officers who include <br />the sergeant and the school liaison officer in the proposal. <br />Council Member Sjoblad stated that approving the proposal as it is would <br />require the levy to be increased. He noted that he would be interested in <br />moving forward if there was one less officer in the proposal. <br />, Council Member Ryan stated that the issues relate to funding and level of <br />service. He noted that there are a lot of small cities in the area with a lot of <br />officers and suggested that there may be an opportunity to cooperate with <br />other cities to assist in the coverage. Council Member Ryan stated that he <br />was under the impression that the Council had come to a decision on the <br />structure of the department which was one chief, one sergeant and three <br />�-- officers. He stated that it appears that perhaps the Council wants to <br />reconsider this structure. <br />The Chief stated that the Council may feel more comfortable with Option 2 <br />which is waiting six months to move forward with the sergeant position. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED TO TABLE THE MOTION TO <br />BEGIN THE PROCESS FOR THE SERGEANT POSITION. Heatinq and Air Conditioninq <br />Mike Loven presented an estimate to upgrade the heating in the upstairs <br />of the City Hall building. He noted that this would allow for three zones <br />upstairs. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO ACCEPT THE BID OF <br />� $4,100 FROM GILMAN HEATING AND AIR WITH THE FUNDS TO <br />
