� <br />� <br />City Council Minutes <br />May 1, 2012 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br />COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO APPROVE A LICENSE <br />AND MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PEQUOT <br />LAKES AND JESSE JANE'S SIGNS AND GRAPHICS CONTINGENT <br />ON THE CITY RECEIVING A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE FOR <br />GENERAL LIABILITY (BODILY INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE) IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $1,000,000 AND THAT THE CITY BE NAMED AS AN <br />ADDITIONAL INSURED. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED <br />THE MOTION. <br />Council Member Ryan suggested that the policy should be primary and <br />noncontributory toward the city. Discussion was held regarding this issue <br />but no Council action was taken to require the insurance to be primary and <br />noncontributory. <br />MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br />7. Fire Department Monthlv Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />8. Police Department Monthlv Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />8.1. Police Serqeant <br />Chief Klang gave a presentation regarding the process for hiring a <br />sergeant. He noted that the position would be exempt from overtime. He <br />presented a proposed structure which consisted of a chief, a sergeant, an <br />administrative secretary and five police officers. He reviewed the three <br />options which were to proceed with the hiring process, wait 6-months to <br />begin the process, or maintain the status quo, of which he recommended <br />to proceed with hiring a sergeant. Chief Klang reviewed the proposed <br />updated job description and the proposed pay range for the sergeant <br />position. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO BEGIN THE PROCESS TO <br />HIRE A SERGEANT. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED THE <br />MOTION. <br />Council Member Malecha stated that the Council has requested other City <br />departments to cut back in order to keep the budgets low and because of <br />this, she would have a difficult time approving the proposal which would <br />� increase the budget by about $60,000 per year.
