� � City Council Minutes May 1, 2012 Page 3 of 8 COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO APPROVE A LICENSE AND MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES AND JESSE JANE'S SIGNS AND GRAPHICS CONTINGENT ON THE CITY RECEIVING A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE FOR GENERAL LIABILITY (BODILY INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE) IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000,000 AND THAT THE CITY BE NAMED AS AN ADDITIONAL INSURED. COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED THE MOTION. Council Member Ryan suggested that the policy should be primary and noncontributory toward the city. Discussion was held regarding this issue but no Council action was taken to require the insurance to be primary and noncontributory. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 7. Fire Department Monthlv Report Report received by Council. 8. Police Department Monthlv Report Report received by Council. 8.1. Police Serqeant Chief Klang gave a presentation regarding the process for hiring a sergeant. He noted that the position would be exempt from overtime. He presented a proposed structure which consisted of a chief, a sergeant, an administrative secretary and five police officers. He reviewed the three options which were to proceed with the hiring process, wait 6-months to begin the process, or maintain the status quo, of which he recommended to proceed with hiring a sergeant. Chief Klang reviewed the proposed updated job description and the proposed pay range for the sergeant position. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO BEGIN THE PROCESS TO HIRE A SERGEANT. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED THE MOTION. Council Member Malecha stated that the Council has requested other City departments to cut back in order to keep the budgets low and because of this, she would have a difficult time approving the proposal which would � increase the budget by about $60,000 per year.
