AT THE MARCH AND SUBSEQUENT PLANNING COMMISSION <br />MEETINGS, UNDERTAKE A REVIEW OF THE CITY'S SIGN <br />ORDINANCES, ENGAGING WITH PROPERTY OWNERS, BUSINESS <br />OWNERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE PROCESS, TO ENSURE THAT <br />CITY SIGN REGULATIONS: <br />A. ARE THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE POSSIBLE AND MINIMIZE <br />PERMITTING PROCESSES, COSTS, AND OTHER OBSTACLES <br />TO BUSINESSES AND THEIR GROWTH OR REMODELING <br />PLANS, AND <br />B. SAFEGUARD THE RIGHTS OF PROPERTY OWNERS <br />WITHOUT OFFENDING COMMUNITY STANDARDS, WHICH <br />WILL BE CLEARLY DEFINED IN THE ORDINANCE, AND <br />C. ARE WRiTTEN IN A MANNER THAT IS CLEAR, <br />OBJECTIVE, AND UNDERSTANDABLE TO THE AVERAGE <br />PERSON, AND CAN BE FAIRLY APPLIED. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER MALECHA SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />Mayor Adams asked if this request is already being considered by the <br />Planning Commission. Chuck Marohn stated that the Planning <br />Commission is amending the ordinance to address digital signs and acting <br />on a request for a digital sign. Mr. Marohn explained that Council Member <br />Akerson's request is to act quickly on the request fo� a digital sign and <br />then to look at the sign ordinance. <br />Council Member Malecha wanted to know how this affects the banks who <br />would like digital display signs. Chuck Marohn stated that this issue would <br />be considered when the sign ordinance is reviewed. <br />MOTION CARRIED 3-0. <br />7. Fire Department Monthlv Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />7.1. Reauest to Hire Firefiphters <br />Chief Nelson requested authorization to hire three firefighters. <br />
