City Council Minutes
February 5, 2024
-----------------------------

Ms. Churack states they are researching the possibility of having a community
garden that would most likely be located near the dog park. She adds there is still
a lot of work to be done, but that location does have water and other necessities
nearby. She explains it would be something like a raised vegetable garden.

The Park Board is still waiting to hear from the State regarding our successful
tree study application and from the Federal government regarding the successful
picnic shelter and bathroom application. Keith Simar has done a tree study at
Sibley Lake Park. The Park Board will do a walkthrough of the park in April.

At the direction of City Council Members, the Park Board has selected the
electronic sign to replace the current community sign in Trailside Park. The
project will then start immediately.

The five priorities that the Park Board has selected include:
1. Implement Trailside Park Plan
2. Research the Possibility of Community Garden
3. Work on Health of Sibley Lake Park via Tree Study
4. Implement City Tree Study via State Grant
5. Raise Money to Improve Christmas Lights

Ms. Churack states the Park Board is very busy and in need of funds. They have
requested to have franchise funds designated, but that is later, on tonight’s
agenda.

5.2 EDC Update – Marketing, Branding, etc.

Mark from the ECD Board gives an update on recent plans of the EDC. He states
they will continue to support the marketing needs of Trailside Estates once the
final plat is recorded, as the final plat is needed to be able to show and sell
properties.

Mark discusses the ideas of rebranding and updating the City logo to bring it up
to the twenty-first century. Discussion ensues regarding the billboard and the
status of getting that project completed. Council Member Ronning inquires of
Mark if the EDC has seen any other images or if they have been provided, aside
from what was presented as the examples. Mayor Gardner states he has a
thumb drive with pictures taken by Blaze Air that we could potentially use. We will
work on getting the rebranding completed before completing the billboard so that
it is an image that can be used repeatedly.

5.3 Recognition – Cheri Seils

Mayor Gardner asks former Council Member Cheri Seils to come forward to be
recognized for her commitment and service to the City of Pequot Lakes for both
City Council and previously the Planning Commission.

6. Planning & Zoning
