The eight hours of holiday pay will count toward
"hours worked" for the purpose of calculating overtime; however, any
"hours worked" previously compensated at one and one-half times the
regular base rate will not be eligible for further overtime compensation.
Work units will be recorded in one-quarter (1/4) hour increments.
Compensatory Time
Employees may accumulate compensatory time for overtime hours worked,
not to exceed eighty (80) hours. Compensatory time may be carried from
year to year, but only to the accrued maximum as allowed in "Vacation—
Accrual". Compensatory time, over the allowed accrued maximum to be
carried over to the following year, shall be paid in cash if not used by
December 31 of the year in which it is earned, unless an employee requests
and receives City Council approval for the exception to this rule. In cases of
termination, for any reason, accrued compensatory time shall be paid to the
employee in cash.
Rest or Break Periods
Every employee, when working under conditions where a rest or break
period is practicable, shall be granted a 15 minute rest or break period in
each of the employees four (4) hour shifts. Each department head shall
schedule rest or break periods so as not to interfere with work requirements.
11
