B. David Knutson was granted a one year leave of absence effective July 2, 2008
C. We served 303 people during the first annual Chokecherry festival pancake
breakfast sponsored by the fire department. The department donated our profit
of$1600.00 to purchase 3 new 1 '/z" fire nozzles to be used on our 2 main
pump trucks.
D. Dan Loven, Tom Nelson, Daren Nordby, Bill Rickard, Brian Evenson, Mike
Schwankl, Dan Cerise, John Wasserbauer, and John Hayes participated in the
mass fire drill at Ideal on August 17th.
E. Several fire fighters helped with the Breezy summer fest on August 23rd
F. Tom Nelson, Bob Peterson I, Daren Nordby Tasha Carlson, Dave Szymanski,
Bill Rickard, Kevin Wendt, John Wasserbauer, John Hayes, Larry Oaks, Pat
Selter, Katie Petersen, Jessica Jacobson, and David Ackerman helped with
the fire prevention program at Eagle View Elementary School on October
7d'.
G. The members of the PLFD hosted a fire prevention open house at the fire
station on October 8d'. Features were the new Safety House, the propane
tank training trailer, and a large jumping house for kids. All equipment was on
display. The training room had many displays of fire equipment and the
projection screen was displaying various photos. Hot dogs, hot chocolate,
chips, cookies, and popcorn were served. The event was well attended
9. SCBA issues: Fourteen air packs passed the air flow test. We are not eligible for any
grant being we have that many in working order. We will have to wait for awhile
before we can make any new purchase.
10. Pump truck repairs: Engine 1 had a 6" butterfly valve that would not close and two
strips of LED indicating bulbs on our water level and foam
level gauges that burned out. Engine 2 had a leaking deck gun
shut off valve that leaked and also needed the pressure relief
valve repaired. Also the air conditioner on Engine 1 was
re-charged. Repair costs were over $3000.00
11. Safety issues: Safety has been discussed at each of our last three meetings. In July,
The topic was several hazardous materials which are transported through our fire
protection area with the summer season in progress. Several orange placards were
noticed in our area, which indicate a shipment of some type of explosives. Also
stressed was driving safety with the increase in traffic. In August, we were
reminded to not respond to duty if any drugs or alcohol are used. We should also
always wear all of our safety gear and do not be in a hurry. Do not remove any
safety guard from any power equipment. Always keep track of all co-workers.
concentrate on the job you are doing. Do not push yourself to extremes. Rest
when you need to. When the job is done put away all your tools securely. Always
report anything that is not safe. In September, auto extrication was the main
topic. Always wear rubber gloves for any potential bloody rescue situation .
Put your helmet visor down over your eyes to prevent body fluids from getting
in your eyes. If you are operating the rescue tools, always take small bites with
the cutter or spreader tool.
12. Any other questions, new issues, or discussion
13. Next meeting: January 28, 2009
14. Adjourn meeting
