PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 1,2008 MEETING <br /> The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 29 members <br /> were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by <br /> Evenson, second by Rickard, motion passed. <br /> Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engines 1, 2, and 3 were all good, however <br /> Engine 2's 6"intake valve on the driver's side does not close properly. Also the gasoline <br /> shut off valve on the generator needs to be shut off when not in use. The water tender was <br /> good. Rescue 1 and 2 were also good. We do need spare chainsaw chains for the new <br /> Stihl chainsaws. Tankers 1, 2, and 3 were all good. The wiper blades on tanker 3 may <br /> need to be replaced. Grass trucks 1 and 2 were good. The ATV and trailer were also <br /> good. The Chief reminded the Breezy Point area fire fighters to bring all the Breezy <br /> station trucks to the Pequot station for the first meeting of each month. <br /> The fire fund balance after all bills are paid this month is approximately $94,000. Our <br /> checking account balance tonight is $10,221.74. During the month we paid Brambleberry <br /> Farms $294.75 for the chokecherry syrup, Dan Cerise $26.09 for wheel cleaners, Bill <br /> Rickard $1306.17 for new tables, a rescue diamond blade, and pancake breakfast <br /> supplies. We also paid $547.88 for a new popcorn maker and supplies. Other bills paid <br /> were $35.15 for pop, $44.00 for volunteer fire fighter benefit association for insurance for <br /> our new fire fighters, $469.90 to Schaefers Foods for pancake breakfast supplies, $275.83 <br /> for a new gas barbecue grill, $20.00 for a bolt cutter, and $1510.00 for three new 1 1/2" <br /> hose nozzles. Deposits for the month were $103.00 which was a $20.00 donation and <br /> $83.00 for leftover pancake breakfast supplies purchased by members. The scholarship <br /> fund balance is $1800.65. Rickard motioned to pay all the bills and approve the financial <br /> report, second by Oaks, motion passed. <br /> The City is sponsoring hearing tests at city hall on October 23 from 7:45 to 11:30 am for <br /> any one interested. <br /> The safety topic for tonight is what to do if a fire fighter is injured. The first thing is to <br /> remove the injured fire fighter from the scene. Then, give medical attention and transport, <br /> if necessary. Next, the Chief and safety officer need to be notified so they can fill out <br /> reports. If injuries are severe, relatives should be notified and they may need help with <br /> travel. The injury report should include the type of injury, the date, time, cause, factors <br /> leading to the injury, and what actions were taken. Copies of all claims should be given to <br /> the city for insurance. <br /> The fire prevention program is next Tuesday, October 7th, starting at 12:45 pm at Eagle <br /> View School. Katie Peterson, Jessica Jacobson, Pat Selter, and John Hayes will join us to <br /> help present the programs to the students. <br />
