City Council Minutes
November 7,2022
MAYOR GARDNER MOVED TO LOWER FREE FROM $300 TO $125.
COUNCIL MEMBER RONNING SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION
CARRIED 5-0.
7. Fire
7.1. Fire Report
Mr. Spiczka gave an update that the Fire District is currently taking applications
for Chief and Two Assistant Chiefs. This is a different process than normal,
including a selection process. Personnel Committee will decide on the Fire Chief.
Mayor has a request of getting district minutes attached to packet. Would like
draft minutes from most recent meeting. Mayor Gardner stated that the Fire Chief
is recommended by Personnel Committee and voted on by the board. Fire Chief
will then be a part of the Personnel Committee. Then Personnel Committee will
take applications for Assistant Chief and make recommendations. Then the other
officers are selected by the Chiefs. It has been an intensive process with the
board.
8. Police
8.1 Police Department Report
The September 2022 Police Department Monthly Report was received by
Council.
8.2 City of Jenkins Law Enforcement Contract
Mayor Gardner questioned why we do not increase the cost, like other contracts.
Mr. Spiczka stated that the last contract we increased (Jenkins Twp)caused
them to drop us. We don't know if a price increase would cause us to lose the
City of Jenkins. We are the closets responders. Council member Ronning spoke
to Mr. Spiczka about this earlier, as he had the same concerns about why the
cost is the same. Council member Pederson suggested a conversation should be
had with Jenkins about a price increase. Mayor Gardner stated the relationship is
going well between City of Pequot and City of Jenkins.
COUNCIL MEMBER RONNING MOVED TO APPROVE CITY OF JENKINS
LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTRACT.
