Request to Hire Part-Time Police Officer
Police Chief Kiang requested the Council approve hiring Chris Melin as a Part-
Time Police Officer. He stated two part-time officers left and two more will be
leaving as they are not working any hours. He is hopeful that they will get three
part-time officers that will be able to fill shifts. Discussion ensued about what is
required to hire a part-time police officer.
COUNCIL MEMBER RONNING MOVED TO HIRE CHRIS MELIN AS A PART-
TIME POLICE OFFICER AT GRADE 11, STEP 1 CONTINGENT ON
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE BACKGROUD AND PRE-
EMPLOYMENT SCREENING. He stated
this is shared road with Loon Lake Township and they are responsible for
plowing in the winter and we handle the grading in the summer. He stated that it
has been requested to consider paving the road up to Krist Court and paving has
been discussed before. He stated there is a plan in place to cut down the hill by
Branch Trail in hopes it holds up better to the increased traffic. He said this is a
cooperative project with Loon Lake Township. Discussion ensued paving the
road. Eric Swenson with North fork Excavating addressed the Council and
informed them they are putting a bid in for the hill project. He stated the hill is
estimated to come down 2-3 feet for visibility and narrow the road for ease of
grading. He also said a culvert will be put in and re-gravel the complete road. Mr.
Swenson stated he contacted Anderson Brothers about paving that section and
they gave him a rough estimate of$15,000 to $20,000 for approximately 100
yards. He highly recommends pavement. Discussion ensued what City services
are offered to the residents down that road. Council consensus was to reach out
to Loon Lake Township and to obtain costs to pave the entire road.
9.3. Coleman Drive Update
Rich Spiczka stated that he and Nick met with the Libby's, residents on Pequot
Blvd. He stated that they received background on the roads from the Libby's.
Mr. Spiczka stated one of the things that Kevin Libby was pretty sure of is there
has a been a noticeable difference in the number of washouts since Pequot Blvd
was paved in 2008.
