MINUTES
CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
SAFETY COMMITTEE
March 6, 2014
8:30 AM
PRESENT: Sandy Peine, City Clerk; Mike Loven, Public Works Supervisor; Tom
Nelson, Fire Chief; Eric Klang, Police Chief and Dawn Bittner, Safety Secretary.
ABSENT: Dave Sjoblad, Council Liaison.
1. Review of Minutes:
A motion was made by Mike Loven, seconded by Eric Klang, to approve the December
5, 2013 Safety Committee Minutes, as read. All members voted "aye". Motion carried.
2. Emer ency Procedures:
Bittner pointed out our Emergency Operations Plan seems to be a duplicate of the County
Plan, containing information on other municipalities and townships in Crow Wing
County that may not be necessary to an Emergency Plan for Pequot Lakes.
It was the consensus of the Safety Committee to:
• Chief Klang will have a copy or access to the Crow Wing County Emergency
Operations Plan;
• Staff will update the City Plan with current City employee information, as well as
local police and fire department contact information;
• An update will be provided at an upcoming Safety Committee Meeting.
3. MMUA Safetv Training_
The Safety Instructor responded that should the City cancel a scheduled training session
due to snow plowing that the City would still be charged for the missed session; it could
not be rescheduled. It was agreed that the City will not cancel a training session due to
snow plowing and the Instructor will hold the class even with poor attendance.
Some training sessions are mandatory to be repeated annually and one is now considered
annual refresher suggested per the League of Minnesota Cities. Staff will make the
necessary change to the Lockout/Tagout information.
Holding a one-day session for all mandatory training was discussed. We would need to
contact the other cities involved in our training group. Chief Nelson stated a city
employee who missed a mandatory session could attend the Fire Department training to
be compliant. It was the consensus to continue as we have been.
