As mentioned above, a decision of this nature would have devastating effects on everyone associated with the Oasis Center. These negative effects are not limited to our personal businesses; it would cause a rippling effects for our community, hence I feel they too are worthy of consideration. • If this new operator is granted liquor license there is a very good chance that my business as we know it today will not survive. The gas and convenience store will be severely impacted, and my only remaining draw would be the off sale liquor. If the City allows for a new off sale liquor store a block south of me that too will suffer miserably. Is this really the message the council wants to send to the existing business community? • The ripple effect is obvious: what will happen to the Oasis Center long term if they no longer have any drawing card? I think we all can predict that outcome, can't we? It potentially could create blight, which was one of the arguments for allowing the tax abatement money to the grocery operator, let's eliminate the blight. 1*.. • On the contrary, if the council upholds the current ordinances you will most certainly breathe fresh air into a strip mall and get the south end of town sparkling. Why? Because our strip mall with the liquor store as its drawing ticket should be able to feed off of the new grocery center. This would help our mall, the tenants and their employees could prosper. Isn't that a more responsible thing to do for our city? • If the two license ordinance is upheld, it isn't unfathomable that we may want to look at a complete remodeling of our center to better feature that one drawing card we have. • Another consideration worth noting are the improvements we've put into our center over the past two years. At the recent meeting I attended with you, the discussion came up about beautifying our store fronts, etc. Here's a brief list of some of the items we've completed that truly do benefit the community.
