seceis,Zoig
Proect Is-a12
Slmvel Ready Project Site
Peqt Iakes,Minuesota
General Site Conditlons:
The proposed development site is approximately 90 acres on the south edge of town. The site is
bounded by the new State Highway 371 bypass to the east and south,Derksen Road to the north
and the Paul Bunyan Trail to the west. The north three fourths of the site is open, but the south one
fourth of the site is lightly waoded. The site is relatively flat with slopes of 2 to 6 percent.
Available Snbsarface Information:
According to the Geologic Map of Minnesota,Quaternary Geology, prepazed by Howard C.
Hobbs aad Joseph E. Goebel(1982,Minnesota Geological Survey),this site lies within an
outwash unit associated with the Superior Lobe glaciation of Pleistocene,Late Wisconsinan age.
The drift from this lobe consists of brown, noncalcareous till with clasts of igneaus and
metamorp}uc rocks derived from pazent material in the Canadian Shield.
According to the Soil Survey of Crow Wing County prepared by the Soil Conservation Service,
the site lies within Greycalm loamy sand. These consist of sands and gravels formed in sandy
outwash. Most of the individual soils mapped on this site are loamy sands that have no adverse
limitations for development of commercial building sites and pavements.
B. Ezploration Program
Ten(10)spLtt spoon sofl borings were condncted on this project. The borings were planned to be
advanced to depths ranging from jnst under 15 feet to 25 feet nsing a 3'/.inch I.D.hollow stem anger.
Samples were obtained every 2'/:feet for the flrst 10 feet and every 5 feet theresfter nsing a Z-inch
O.D.splt spoon sampler in accordance with the American Society for Tting and Materials(ASTM
D158. Standard genetration valnec(N-values)were obtained at e.ach sample interval by drlving the
sampler into the soil asing a 140-ponnd hammer falling 30 inches. After an intdal set of 6 inches, the
number of blows reqaired to drtve the sampler 12tnches is known as the standard penetration
resistance or N-valne. Where the sampler can not be drYven at least 6 inches by 50 blows of the
hammer, the total number of blows as well as the diistance driven is reported on the boring logs.
Groundwater levels were noted during drilltng andmmediately after compleon. The holes ls than
15 feet were back811ed with the anger cnttings. The deeper holes were sealed with bentonte gront in
accordance with NIDH ruirements. Some settlement of the bore holes may be ezpected. The
borings were conduetl with a truck mounted drill rig. The snrface elevtions atch boring
locadon were provided by WSN.
Eznloration Resalts•
The borings were conducted in an open field and encountered topsoil material consisting of dark,
Page 2
