PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 1, 2009 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 28 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and corrected to state that the
department has two safety warning signs instead of one. Bridge motioned to approve the
minutes as corrected, second by Mike Peterson, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 was all OK. Engine 2 was missing
a cord reel which was found on Tanker 1. Everything else on Engine 2 was fine. Water
tender 1 was all OK and the check sheet will be corrected as written tonight. Tanker 1
was short a 2'/2" by 1 ' /Z" reducer. Tanker 2 and 3 were OK. The bad radiator hose on
tanker 3 has not been repaired yet. Grass trucks 1 and 2 were OK. The trailer and ATV
were good. Rescue 1 was OK and rescue 2 was missing a 6 foot pike pole.
Casanova asked where we should keep the batteries for the thermal imaging camera. He
has noticed both sets of batteries are stored next to the camera. He thought one set should
always be placed in the camera compartment after they are charged. The idea was
approved as stated.
The financial report for our checking stated our new balance tonight at $8356.30. During
the month we paid $65.66 for pop and water, donated $100.00 to the Pequot Lakes grad
blast, paid the Schaefer's Foods bill for $92.43, which was for the joint training with
Nisswa, paid $389.62 for 24 pizzas we ordered during the Westlund house fire, and also
paid a delivery tip to Tasty Pizza for $40.00. The scholarship fund balance remains at
$1300.65. The fire fund balance is approximately $34,000.00. The Chief reported we are
going to receive some money back for our training expense we incurred, but we do not
know how much we will get. Wendt motioned to approve the financial report, second by
Mike Peterson, motion passed.
There was no significant correspondence to report tonight.
The safety topic for tonight was what to do if any one of us gets caught in a room during
a fire and is trapped. If you have to go through a wall to escape, always try to protect the
regulator and hoses that are on your SCBA. If you have to, you can take off the strap to
escape from danger. Always remember the main catch point of the SCBA is the top of the
air bottle. Try to size up the opening you plan to escape through before you proceed. Also
look where you are going when making moves. If you are trapped with no options to
escape, call a "may day" to make all personnel aware of the danger. We will put drinking
water on the grass trucks as grass fire season is almost here. Do not drive over any grass
or brush fire with any vehicles we have if you can help it.
The unfinished business portion of our meeting is that our new office room above the
meeting room is framed and ready to be wired. The sheetrock has been paid for and is
ready to be picked up if any one could do that. A work night will be announced later.
