� This Master Park Plan should be viewed as a living document,to be evaluated and <br /> refined on a regulaz basis to keep pace with demographic,recreation, funding,and other <br /> trends as they evolve. <br /> THE PROCESS <br /> In this process the Pazk Commission will: <br /> • Review community survey data. <br /> � Review current parks,trails,and open space and propose improvements for these <br /> areas. <br /> • Identify possible future park land and candidate sites for pazk and trail acquisition <br /> through the development process or purchase. <br /> • Determine which pazk facilities and amenities will Ue needed to serve future <br /> populations. <br /> • Evaluate and identify trail corridors and links and assess open space opportunities. <br /> • Identify long-term needs,trends and costs for the parks,trails,and open space system. <br /> • Develop goals, strategies,and policies for the parks,trails,and open space system. <br /> � Commnnity Inpat: <br /> The residents of Pequot Lakes have provided input regazding the development of the <br /> Master Pazk Plan through a Pazk Survey distributed throughout the community and on <br /> line through the City's web site in 2011. Input was also provided during an Open House <br /> as part of Comprehensive Plan visioni.ng in 2010. The Park Commission will continue to <br /> seek community ingut. <br /> PARI�S <br /> Park Classiftcation System: <br /> Pazk classifications define the minimum acreage and development criteria for different <br /> classes or types of pazks. They aze important as they provide a common,consistent, and ', <br /> justifiable framework for pl nnin purposes,allowing for the orderly development of the , <br /> park system that ensures all community needs are considered. <br /> The classifications used in this document aze based on the national guidelines <br /> recommended by the National Recreation and Pazks Association(NRPA). Currently,in <br /> Pequot Lakes,the pazk system is comprised of five mini-parks,the Historic Fire Tower <br /> which is shazed with the DNR,a school playground that offers tennis courts and baseball <br /> fields,and also DNR boat landi.ngs and a DNR bike trail. <br /> � <br /> Page 3 of 13 <br />
