Ms. Bittner explained I <br /> the Sign Committee presented their ideas to the Planning Commission �I <br /> who held two special meetings. The Planning Commission is �, <br /> recommending the approval of the sign ordinance amendment as <br /> presented. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA MOVED TO APPROVE ORDINANCE <br /> 18-06 AMENDING SECTION 17-3.2 DEFINITIONS, SECTION 17-5.16 �', <br /> LAND USE MATRIX, AND SECTION 17-7.1 SIGNS. COUNCIL I <br /> MEMBER SWANSON SECONDED THE MOTION. I <br /> Council discussion ensued regarding rezoning, variances, billboards <br /> versus monument signs, and the restrictive language regarding posts and , <br /> lighting. I <br /> Doug Leckband, Planning Commission Member, addressed the Council <br /> and strongly suggested the Council not change the recommendation from � <br /> the Planning Commission. He noted that the structure of the sign was � <br /> intended to be more restrictive and cautious at first with the ability to <br /> amend the ordinance in the future as needed. i <br /> � <br /> Council Member Pederson inquired if the City wanted to put up a welcome I <br /> sign could they apply for a variance to make the changes needed. Justin ' <br /> Burslie clarified that the City could apply for a variance and noted that a ' <br /> monument sign is more of a public information sign and not an offsite or ', <br /> billboard sign.
