City Council Minutes <br /> Apri13, 2018 <br /> Page4of7 <br /> ----------------------------- <br /> Mayor Adams stated on behalf of the Council they are aware of the <br /> signage issue and the City Council supports the businesses. <br /> Sarah Hanson, 31147 Front Street, addressed the Council and asked <br /> what the negative consequences of putting up billboards along Highway <br /> 371 would be as she believes it could only benefit the businesses. <br /> Laura Leckband, 4420 Main Street, addressed the Council and requested <br /> they recognize the businesses have suffered dramatically and stated four <br /> businesses have closed this winter. Ms. Leckband added it is imperative <br /> that we are welcoming to the people traveling by. <br /> Tara Bundy, 31074 Rasmussen Road, addressed the Council and stated <br /> when she took ownership of Leslie's she was told the City would be <br /> looking into putting up billboards on City owned property and wondered <br /> what has been done to move forward with this idea. <br /> Michelle Lelwica, 31108 Govemment Drive, addressed the Council and <br /> stated people don't realize they have passed Pequot Lakes until they are <br /> in Jenkins. She suggested choosing signs that are special to this area, <br /> possibly with a theme. <br /> Council discussion ensued regarding billboards, digital signs, location, <br /> signs unique to the area, temporary signs, fundraising, timing, and <br /> changing the City's sign ordinance. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON MOVED TO AMEND THE SIGN <br /> ORDINANCE TO ALLOW A MINIMUM OF TWO DOUBLE SIDED <br /> BILLBOARD SIGNS TO BE PLACED ON CITY PROPERTY ALONG <br /> STATE HIGHWAY 371. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED <br /> THE MOTION. ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, COUNCIL MEMBER <br /> AKERSON —AYE; COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA—AYE; COUNCIL <br /> MEMBER PEDERSON —AYE; COUNCIL MEMBER SWANSON —AYE; <br /> MAYOR ADAMS— NAY. MOTION CARRIED 4-1. <br /> Mayor Adams requested a Sign Committee be formed to be headed up by <br /> Chris Monroe and include Laura Leckband, Sarah Hanson, Lisa Kaneski, <br /> Scott Pederson and Mayor Adams to discuss sign size, location, lighting, <br /> aesthetics, etc. and present these ideas to the Planning Commission by <br /> April 11, 2018 so it can be put on the Planning Commission agenda for <br /> discussion at their April 19, 2018 meeting. <br /> 7.
