M
City of Pequot Lakes
December 22, 2009
where City staff take care of the tasks that they can accomplish and only use us when our skills and
experiences best suit the City and its citizens.
As in past years, when a specific project is defined, we will provide you a proposal with our tasks and
costs.
Following is a summary of a few of the projects we worked on with the City this past year, as well what we
see as future projects for 2010:
■ TH 371
We will continue to assist the City in working through all the issues (safety, service roads, city
utilities, cost - sharing, etc.) associated with MnDOT's proposed TH 371 improvements.
Planning now will pay future dividends for the City's residents and its visitors.
■ 2009 South Oak Street Improvements
As part of the process started several years ago by the City, we assisted the City with engineering
solutions for the phased reconstruction of this locally important north -south corridor in the City.
■ 2009 Butler and Woodman Street Improvements
During this past year, we assisted the City with this downtown area roadway and utility
reconstruction project. Due in part to attractive pricing available, this project also included
bituminous overlays of a number of roadways in the rural areas of the City.
■ Proposed SuperValu Facility
In 2009, we assisted the City during the review and permitting process for the proposed SuperValu
grocery store. in 2010, we will be assisting the City on an as- needed basis during construction of
future City-owned utilities within this project.
■ Various Assistance to P &Z and the EDC
When requested, we have provided input and feedback to P &Z and the EDC. We believe we can
provide value to the City in these situations and appreciate the opportunity to work with them on
coordinating infrastructure with planning, zoning, and economic development.
■ Wastewater Treatment Facility and Collection System
We have worked with the City in the past on various projects related to your wastewater treatment
facility. As time goes on, and as the spray irrigation land becomes more valuable for other uses, it
is important that the City looks ahead at how to continue efficiently treating and disposing of
wastewater.
An upgrade to any treatment facility is not a quick process. In the past, WSN has presented a
proposal to the City for a Facility Plan that would meet regulatory requirements on looking at
possible upgrades. We will continue to work with the City and be sensitive to its financial
concerns on the best timing for undertaking such a project.
We have also worked with the City to scope collection system rehabilitation projects and apply for
their placement on the Minnesota Public Facility Authority's (PFA) Project Priority List (PPL) for
