M
December 22, 2009
The Honorable Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
PO Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 -0361
RE: Engineering Services for 2010
Dear Mayor and Members of the Council:
Brainerd 1 Baxter
7804 Industrial Park Road
PO Box 2720
Baxter, MN 56425 -2720
Tel: 218.829.5117
Fax: 218.829.2517
www.wsn.us.com
Widseth Smith Nolting would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your City Engineer in 2009
and respectfully request re- appointment as your City Engineer going forward in 2010.
We have been working with you since 1993 and think of you as a part of our extended family. We greatly
appreciate our working relationships with all of the Council and City staff and value the confidence you
place in our work. WSN is proud to employ about 60 people in Crow Wing County - some of whom reside
in Pequot Lakes - and to reinvest in the communities we serve.
In 2010, we will continue to attend your monthly Council meetings and answer miscellaneous questions
from City Council Members and City Staff at no cost to the City (this amounted to a number of hours in
un- billed time and services to the City in 2009, which we will calculate for you if requested; in the past, it
has been in the thousands of dollars).
In 2010, we propose to provide similar services that we provided to the City in 2009, again, at no charge to
the City. These include:
• We will attend your monthly Council Meeting.
• We will answer miscellaneous questions from City Council Members and City Staff.
In 2009, we provided similar services to the City, the amount of un- billed time and services which we have
not calculated; however, we estimate it was in the thousands of dollars.
Also, please note that our 2010 billing rates are the same as our 2009 billing rates — we are trying to hold
the line during these challenging economic times.
And speaking of challenging economic times, construction prices remain very attractive. In lieu of an all or
nothing approach to infrastructure, we like to work with our Cities in fashioning a long -term, thought -out
infrastructure investment plan that you can then undertake in a responsible and economical manner.
We are glad the City has taken this approach too, and we have enjoyed working with the City on projects
engineering I architecture J land surveying j environmental services
WIDSETH
SMITH
MUTING
