MAYOR <br /> ADAMS SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-1. COUNCIL <br /> MEMBER AKERSON OPPOSED. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE <br /> SUMMARY PUBLICATION OF ORDINANCE 17-14. COUNCIL <br /> MEMBER SWANSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION FAILED 3- <br /> 1. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON OPPOSED. A SUMMARY <br /> PUBLICATION REQUIRES A 4/5T" VOTE. <br /> 6.3. Offsite Sign Amendment Uqdate <br /> Justin Burslie explained the Planning Commission reviewed the sign <br /> ordinance regarding billboard signage along Highway 371 as directed by <br /> the Council and the Commission is unanimously opposed to billboards at <br /> this time based on the following items. <br /> • Large billboard type signage is not cansistent with the "north <br /> woods" and "rural" character referenced in the comprehensive <br /> plan. <br /> • Large signage could create safety concerns for motorists traveling <br /> at a high rate of speed. <br /> • The realignment was only recently completed and the City should <br /> not rush into any decisions on off-site signage on the new highway. <br /> MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO STRIKE THE APPLICATION FROM THE <br /> OCTOBER PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA REGARDING THE <br /> ORDINANCE AMENDMENT PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED <br /> BILLBOARDS. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE <br /> MOTION. MOTIQN CARRIED 4-0. <br /> 7. Fire <br /> 7.1. Fire Relief Benefit Level Increase <br /> Tom Nelson discussed the Fire Relief Association's request for a benefit <br /> level increase from $3,900 to $4,250 per year of service. Mr. Nelson noted <br /> that the Relief Association's investments are projecting a $201,000 <br /> surplus which is two years of operating expenses. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA MOVED TO INCREASE THE FIRE <br /> RELIEF ASSOCIATION'S BENEFIT LEVEL FROM $3,900 TO $4,250. <br />
