TDS—Bob Perkins presented a new proposal for fiber optics in both the Business <br /> Park and the expansion south of Derksen Road. Aid to Construction has gone <br /> away with a cost for the project now being zero dollars. <br /> Chair Jurchen stated as a conclusion to Agenda Item 3 TDS will have fiber moving <br /> into the Business Park with no cost to the City. We need a comprehensive plan for <br /> fiber in the rest of the City. Chair Jurchen will report to the City Council in August. <br /> 4. Update on HRA/EDA Meeting of June 26th <br /> Through the Economy Tax Force, Mayor Adams and Commissioner Lubke visited <br /> with Barb Carlson and Bob Ritter of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority <br /> (HRA) on whether the HRA could be combined with an Economic Development <br /> Authority (EDA). The HRA will give it consideration and report back in 30 days. <br /> Crookston has a combined EDA/HRA with a very positive relationship. Chair <br /> Jurchen will visit with Crookston. <br /> 5. Potential Development South of Business Park <br /> A. Engage Council <br /> Chair Jurchen stated this issue needs to be brought to the City Council in August <br /> again. It may be time to have a joint meeting with the City Council, Planning and <br /> Zoning and the EDC to discuss the development of this area. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the amount of money hockey and basketball brings to <br /> the community and how to invest in baseball and soccer. The school is landlocked <br /> and parking along South Oak Street is a hazard. A sports facility visible from State <br /> Highway 371 could be economic development for the City. <br /> Sheila Haverkamp noted this site has been discussed for various options in the past. <br /> All of these ideas should be explored and vetted for what is best for the City. <br /> Councilman Pederson stated the Council is proposing a new maintenance facility in <br /> this area. <br /> Chair Jurchen suggested reviewing the Comprehensive Plan at an upcoming meeting. <br /> He volunteered to get a directive from the City Council in August. <br /> B. Funding Mechanisms <br /> 6. Thriving Communities Update <br /> Commissioner Lindholm stated the Patriot Foundation is underway with 5 additional <br /> board positions to fill before mid-August. <br />
