He noted the Pequot Lakes Economic
Development Commission(EDC)is working on the high speed internet issue. The Economy Task
Force is focusing on branding and funding mechanisms and is recommending"The Heart of the
Good Life"as the community slogan. Upon City Council approval, this slogan would be
registered with the State for$50 and the National Registry will cost$500 plus any additional
legal expenses that may be needed. Discussions will begin with the Housing&Redevelopment
Authority(HRA) regarding the possibility of forming an EDA/HRA combination.
MARK JURCHEN MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL THAT"THE HEART OF THE
GOOD LIFE"BE THE COMMUNITY SLOGAN FOR PEQUOT LAKES. MOLLY ZINS SECONDED THE
MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
Chris Lindholm explained that J.P.Gillach from MnDOT is willing to provide assistance for an
open house in our community after Memorial Day. This public relations idea could be hosted at
a local business or in Trailside Park to convey the message that Pequot Lakes is here, open for
business, and located a short distance from Highway 371. Nancy Adams questioned if this open
house should occur once the Highway is entirely finished. The consensus of the Committee
agreed to pick a Friday or Saturday in June and connect with businesses to offer deals reiterating
that the City is open. Jenna Crawford will connect with the Chamber on this idea and Mark
Jurchen will contact J.P.Gillach.
Quality of Life—Molly Zins and Jim Park provided the update. Ms.Zins noted the Quality of Life
Task Force has large membership with a wide variety of interests. Subcommittees were formed
to address these interests. The Hiking/Biking/Ski Trails subcommittee is currently working with
the DNR to create an online mobile friendly mapping tool. Ideas for bike rentals in Trailside Park
have been discussed as well. Jenna Crawford stated the Nice Ride Bike System would be a good
resource for the Task Force to contact for collaboration. Mr. Park updated the Committee on
the retail enclave idea that may be re-visited in the future due to cost. A sample of the
community website's welcome page is currently being designed.
