As previously discussed, the salt storage fabric arch facility was being
handled by the City. It would most likely be a design-build proprietary
type of facility. However, we understand that the foundation and floor
will need to be designed by us.
Our scope of work said that we would put together a cost estimate after
this second Core Team meeting. See the attached cost estimate. Since
we had yet to complete it, the Core Team members did not see or
discuss this. As some on the Core Team said at the meeting, and I am
paraphrasing, 'it will be what it will be', but we need to have an
estimate to review different ways of financing this facility. We are still
right around the $1.4 million estimate from the Study.
Remember, from a January 27 schedule presented to the City Council
on several public works projects, we should have been done with both
the Schematic and Final Design by the end of June. We are obviously
not going to make that, but we believe we can catch up so that
construction can still occur in 2018.
Council Action Requested: Council motion approving the following
four recommendations.
RECOMMENDATION No. 1: The Core Team recommends the City
Council approves this building schematic. The size is relatively modest,
meets today's needs, but also has enough room for potential future
equipment (i.e. it is anticipated it will not need to be expanded for quite
a few years).
RECOlVIlVIENDATION No. 2: The Core Team recommends the City
Council approve placing this Maintenance / Public Works facility on a
roughly 4 acre parcel on existing City property in the southeast corner
of Derksen Road and Morehouse Drive. The City already owns the
land. There is City water and sanitary sewer adjacent at the Morehouse
and Derksen intersection (while it is a dead-end right now, a City
watermain will be helpful for the required fire sprinkler needs of this
