r
2. Lake
3. Forest Management
4. Agriculture
5. Rural Residential
6. Transition Residential
7. Shoreline Residential
8. Urban Residential
9. Commercial
10.Downtown Mixed-Use
11.Light Industrial
These zoning classifications would need to be more closely defined, but the purpose and
intent of each classification is proposed to be as follows:
1. Open Space: To provide a zoning classification for preservation of sensitive
areas, unique resources and designated non-developable property. Areas such as
wetlands, bluffs, threatened and endangered species habitat, historic sites and
lands set-aside as part the development process should be zoned as Open Space.
The Open Space zone is compatible with every other zoning classification.
2. Forest Management: To provide a zoning classification for sustainable
management of forested areas. Development patterns are characterized as very
low-density residential without municipal utility service and with only limited
demand for accessibility. Forest Management zones would generally be
compatible with Agriculture, Rural Residential, Transition Residential,
Commercial and Light Industrial zones, but may also be compatible with other
zones in areas where forest stands exist. Forest Management zoning should be
used to preserve rural character.
3. Agriculture: To provide a zoning classification for agricultural uses.
Development patterns are characterized as very low-density residential without
municipal utility service and with only limited demand for accessibility.
Aviculture zones would generally be compatible with Forest Management,Rural
Residential, and Transition Residential zones, but may be compatible with other
zones where existing agricultural uses have been established. Agriculture zoning
should be used to preserve rural character.
4. Rural Residential: To provide a zoning classification that allows for low-density
residential development. Development in this zone is without municipal utility
service and with only limited demand for accessibility. The Rural Residential
zone is compatible with Forest Management, Agriculture and Transition
Residential zones.
5. Urban Residential: To provide a residential zoning classification that contains an
urban development pattern characterized by traditional grid-style lot block
layouts. Parcels are either served by or designed for municipal sewer and water
