Ordinance/Zoning Map Updating
Last month we indicated that we would be bringing recommendations for integrating the
zoning map and ordinances from the two, now merged, entities of the City of Pequot
Lakes and Sibley Township.
The following land use categories have been in use by the City and Township
City of Pequot Lakes Sibley Township
Agricultural Forestry Agricultural
Wooded Residential Forestry
Medium-Density Residential Rural Residential
Multi-Family Residential
Exempt Commercial Waterfront Commercial
Limited Commercial Commercial
Commercial Industrial
Light Industrial Water
Public/Open
Sibley Township also has an shoreline overlay zone that further delineates land within
1,000 feet of water bodies.
Obviously, simply adopting the old Sibley Township ordinance would not deal with the
extent of uses in-place within the old City limits. Additionally, it is our recommendation
that we do not try to retrofit these two Ordinance's classification system but examine,
from a planning perspective, exactly what it is we are trying to accomplish with these
districts and use that as a basis for proceeding. To that end, we have are recommending
the following zoning classifications(listed in order from lowest impact to most
intensified land use)be considered by the Planning Commission as the basis for updating
the current zoning map:
1.
