The Department of Natural Resources(DNR)was delegated <br /> responsibility by the Minnesota Legislature to administer a cost <br /> for the development and maintenance cost-sharing program <br /> P tenance of public recreational:motor vehicle <br /> (RMV)trails and areas. The goal of this program was the creation and <br /> maintenance of local trails,at the initiative of local trail organizations and local <br /> units of government. The state's intent was to offer financial assistance so that <br /> locally controlled trails could exist where none had before. <br /> These trails provide opportunities for recreational clubs to use designated trails <br /> for their members. The Designated grant-In-Aid Snowmobile Trail travels <br /> through Pequot Lakes parallel to the Paul Bunyan Trail,and it is in use mainly <br /> December through March. Similar trails open primarily during the winter <br /> months have difficulty keeping summer ATV users from illegally <br /> The City can benefit from these trails by taking ownership of them where <br /> the trail. <br /> appropriate during the warm part of the year for use by mountain bikers.
