• All public land parcels in the city should be catalogued and inventoried <br /> for each of the possible uses the city may have for land. <br /> • The City needs to designate future park,playground,and trail sites and <br /> corridors. Acquire these sites through purchase,gift,or trade;develop <br /> them as needed. <br /> • The water surface of Pequot Lakes needs to be managed by the City to <br /> maximize the total enjoyment of all the people and for the highest level of <br /> individual satisfaction of each user. This may mean regulating water <br /> surface use. <br /> • The City should work to purchase property for and develop a public <br /> beach with County and State assistance. <br /> • Neighborhood parks and recreation facilities are very important. They <br /> provide opportunities for close-to-home recreation. These areas should be <br /> developed in conjunction with new subdivisions. <br /> • To satisfy Pequot Lakes'need for more community parks,the State and <br /> County could allocate land and the City could develop the area for park <br /> purposes. <br /> • The City should encourage the development of a loop trail connection to <br /> the Paul Bunyan Trail. Establishment of a separate treadway is needed <br /> whenever possible. At minimum specially designed highway shoulders <br /> can provide short connections where a separate treadway is not feasible. <br /> L..- • Plan for adequate parking and trail service areas where major county <br /> roads cross the Paul Bunyan Trail. <br /> • Develop appropriate zoning setbacks to the Paul Bunyan Trail. <br /> • Trail right of ways need to be carefully sited and given permanent <br /> protection so the trail system can be protected and easily managed as the <br /> city develops. The city should consider making most grant-In-Aid trails <br /> available for summer as well as winter use. <br /> • Existing public lakeshore should be carefully managed and where needed <br /> developed for maximum public benefit. <br /> • Encourage reasonable access to the lake resource through public water <br /> access and agreements with private land owners. <br /> • Encourage non-boat use of lake resources by providing public docking <br /> facilities linked to retail concentrations,scenic overlooks,shoreland <br /> walkways,and fishing piers. <br /> 5 <br />
