City Council Minutes
July 23, 2013
conscience decision to live in the Township. He was not in favor of the
orderly annexation between the Township and City but this decision was
palatable because of the tax differential. He noted that if Sibley Township
knew about this tax equalization back then, they would not have agreed to
the orderly annexation. Mr. Cogan is opposed to the phase-in.
Jon Kotaska, 4008 Brown Street, Pequot Lakes — Mr. Kotaska stated his
disappointment of the Council's comments at this meeting and would like
a better foot put forward by the City Council.
Jack Schmidt, 31179 Pine Street, Pequot Lakes — Mr. Schmidt stated that
on June 4, 2002 Sibley Township came to the City of Pequot Lakes with
open arms and in 2003, Township residents were already on the election
ballot. He stated that the Township has been on the gravy train for 11
years and the City has been carrying the Township. If the City Council
can move quickly in 2002 they can move quickly now. Mr. Schmidt stated
that the three year phase-in is a sham and it should be done in one year.
Deb Tulenchik, 31203 Spruce Street, Pequot Lakes — Ms. Tulenchik
stated that she does not understand why it takes so long for the Council to
move on things. Ms. Tulenchik supports Jack Schmidt.
Lisa Urseth, 4631 Patriot Place, Pequot Lakes — Ms. Urseth stated that
her street does not get plowed first, it does not have street lighting, and
she does not receive the same services as the urban district. She noted
that she bought her property in 2008 and was never told that in four years
this would happen. Ms. Urseth agrees with Curt Cogan and David
Kennedy.
Lois Asche, 3987 Marshall Street, Pequot Lakes — Ms. Asche stated that
the City Council should look at how they're spending money instead of this
issue. Ms. Asche agrees with Curt Cogan and David Kennedy.
Barb Knutson, 30716 Pequot Boulevard, Pequot Lakes — Ms. Knutson
asked how many City Council members live in the urban and rural service
districts. Council Member Sjoblad noted that four council members live in
the rural service district and one council member lives in the urban service
district.
Dave Lang, 7828 Ruttger Road, Pequot Lakes — Mr. Lang stated that due
to high taxes there is no reason for the three year phase-in. Mr. Lang
noted that the phase-in should be well down the road.
Mayor Adams commented that she never looked at the town as two parts
but as one City.
2E.
