Noncompliance with Pequot Lakes Comprehensive Plan and East Twin Lake Lake <br /> Management Plan. <br /> 1. The approval of the CUP will greatly challenge the values and polices of the Pequot Lakes <br /> Comprehensive Plan in the following areas: <br /> a. Community Character Action Plan <br /> i. This type of industrial use of FM zoned property is not consistent with Small <br /> Town Feel,Natural Features, and Recreation Opportunities. <br /> ii. This CUP is in direct contrast with the policies of"Preserve and Maintain <br /> Forested Gateways leading into Pequot Lakes"and"Ensure that all new <br /> development complements and does not detract from the natural, scenic, and <br /> cultural amenities unique to Pequot Lakes. <br /> b. Natural Resources Action Plan <br /> i. This CUP is in direct opposition to the 69%of Sibley Township residents <br /> who favor restricting future growth to areas not at risk of environmental <br /> damage. <br /> ii. This CUP is in direct contrast with the policies of"Direct future development <br /> away from significant and/or sensitive natural resources and toward suitable <br /> areas with existing infrastructure and proper soil and slope characteristics" <br /> iii. This CUP is in direct contrast with the policies of"Foster environmental <br /> stewardship" <br /> iv. This CUP is in direct conflict with the high susceptibility of ground water <br /> contamination for this area. <br /> c. Transportation <br /> i. The 25-50 continuous hauling trucks challenges an already unsafe Highway <br /> 371. <br /> 2. The approval of the CUP will greatly challenge the values and polices of the East Twin Lake <br /> Management Plan in the following areas: <br /> a. Groundwater Contamination Susceptibility <br /> i. East Twin Lake drainage area is located in the Central Sands Groundwater <br /> Region and is highly susceptible to groundwater contamination. The <br /> Potlatch property stated in this CUP is immediately adjacent to East Twin <br /> Lake Drainage and the West Twin Lake watershed. <br /> b. Scenic Amenities <br /> i. Noise,Air and Water pollution from operations outlined in this CUP does not <br /> lend itself to retaining natural beauty and character. <br /> The pending sale of this Potlatch property and the CUP application by Anderson Brothers directly <br /> impacts well over 100 families living on and in the area of Mayo Lake,East Twin Lake, and West Twin <br /> Lake. In fact the proposed site is with in 300-500 yards of many of the areas residences. <br /> This is not the right choice for the City of Pequot Lakes.
