AGENDA ITEM # 9.5
City of
Pequot
Lakes-L=7z--*—
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Tim Houle
Date: March 1, 2022
Subject: Forcemain and PER/Facility Plan
Report: The City has a 1960's vintage forcemain that carries all the City's
wastewater from the main lift station off of Gravdahl out to the wastewater
treatment facility (WWTF).
Late last year, there was a break in this forcemain just past the Gravdahl lift
station. A couple of weekends ago, there was a break in the forcemain at the
Industrial Park.
Both breaks were in areas that had been disturbed in the past—albeit sometimes 25
years ago.
In general, when the repairs were made, the condition of the pipe itself looked
reasonable.
But, due to its age, and the potential of breaks, we have been looking at replacing
this forcemain.
As previously approved, we have been preparing a Preliminary Engineering Report
(PER—a USDA Rural Development term) /Facility Plan (a MPCA term). This is
basically a Study looking at improvement options to your main Gravdahl lift
station (1960's vintage with several updates in the years since then), the forcemain,
and a possible 3rd aerated stabilization cell for the WWTF.
Such a Study is used to help the City apply for funding assistance for the design
and construction of improvements.
