City of Pequot Lakes Implementation Meeting Notes `-- August 31, 2004 The information below is a summary of the minutes of the WHP Implementation & Evaluation meeting held by the Pequot Lakes WHP Team August 31, 2004. The information below is organized following the MDH Evaluation form and reflects changes or issues relative to the public water system. A summary of activities to be accomplished during the next 2 years is included at the end of the report and any special concerns or comments raised that may have been discussed or raised at the meeting. I. Changes to Water System, Delineations & Contaminant Sources A-C: Based on discussions with the Pequot Lakes WHP Team & City Staff, no new wells or significant changes to the water system have occurred since the WHP Plan was adopted and approved by MDH in July, 2003. The merger of Sibley Township and the City of Pequot Lakes in March of 2002 exemplifies the continued growth of the area. However at this time, no expansion of the water system has resulted from the growth of the surrounding lakes area. Based on the moderately vulnerable nature of the public water supply wells, identification of 1) new or unused wells, or 2) above or below ground chemical / petroleum tanks and, 3) any changes in the status of these potential contaminant sources is the primary concern. At this time, it is not known that any new wells have been constructed in the DWSMA. Similarly, no unused wells have been identified at this time. A new below ground tank for the purposes of storing used motor or waste oil is being planned for construction at a location near the Pequot City Hall. Proper containment and monitoring devices are being installed at this site to prevent any negative impact to the public water supply wells or aquifer. Also discussed at the WHP Meeting was the status or condition of any former municipal wells. The WHP Manager described that the former city wells west of town were sealed at the time the new water treatment plant and new city wells were constructed in 2000. No other issues or changes in the DWSMA relative to WHP efforts were identified by the WHP Team. Changes in the Inner Well Management Zone (IWMZ) and one year time of travel area were discussed. No new threats or changes were identified within these areas. City and MRWA staff reviewed and updated the MDH I WMZ forms as part of the WHP evaluation & implementation meeting. No new issues or changes in contaminant sources were identified in this area. No component of the contingency plan (Chapter 7) has been implemented. The city intends to update the contingency plan as needed to reflect any changes. 3
