snow removal and school bus turnaround space.
The ditch width, ditch depth, back slopes, and in slopes lines don't seem to relate too
well. If the ditch is 8 feet wide and 4 feet deep, that would be
1:1 slopes, not the 1:3 and 1:4 indicated (i.e. I think the ditches will end up much wider
16.1n 'real life' ) . A 4-foot depth may be appropriate again down by CR 168/CR 107, however, I
don't see ditches that deep in an urban area like we are talking about. If it is an area
where people will be mowing, the
1:3 probably should be flattened to 1:4.
As far as roadway dimensions, I see us being either urban curb and gutter, which this
table does not cover, or greater than 150 ADT from this table.
Again, this will depend on where we are at in the City.
Hope this helps.
We look forward to MnDOT' s official responses to the City's previous comments.
Times
-----Original Message-----
From: Timothy Bray (mailto:timothy.bray @dot.state.mn.us]
Sent: Friday, November 19, 2004 10:42 AM
To: thoule @wsn-mn.com
Cc: chiniker @sehinc.com; nblanchard @sehinc.com
Subject: Backage Road alternatives
Tim,
Here are the alternatives that we looked at for the Gloria Dei Church property, including
Bob Olson's concept.
As expected, there are a number of other properties that would have to be effected to fit
the service road in front of the church. The RED option is Mn/DOT's preferred alternative
lue to minimizing R/W impacts.
The criteria used in developing the options includes:
•30 mph design speed, with enough tangent space between curves to transition in and out of
superelevation.
-An 80 ' right-of-way corridor, 40' on both sides of centerline.
Are there any other alternatives that you would like us to look at?
Go ahead and use these drawings in any way you see fit to inform the City of Pequot Lakes.
The drawings will also be referenced in our official responses back to you regarding the
City's formal comments.
I have also attached a table of the roadway standards that we intend to use on all of the
secondary streets in Pequot Lakes. Can I have you look through these and make comments on
whether they are acceptable to you. I believe that in a discussion a couple weeks ago you
told me that PL has no official street standard policy.
Thanks. Feel free to call with questions.
Timothy Bray
Project Manager
District 3 Project Development
(2 18) 828-2732
(218) 828-6105 fax
Timothy.Bray @dot.state.mn.us
2
