City Council Minutes
November 9, 2004
Page 7
------------------------------
8.1. Review Chamber Building Lease
Council Member Johnson indicated that she would abstain from any
discussion or motion on this issue as she is employed by the Chamber of
Commerce.
The City Clerk noted that a meeting was held with City representatives
and Chamber Board representatives to discuss the Chamber Trailside
building. It was the consensus of those at the meeting that the Chamber
would continue to lease the building from the City and to pay off the
building. After the building is paid in full, the Chamber would like to own
the building. The Clerk noted that because there are restrictions set by the
DNR that are tied to the deed, she would have to check to see if it is
possible for the City to sell the building and property to the Chamber.
It was the consensus of the Council to have staff check with the DNR
regarding the possible sale of the building and then to bring the issue back
for Council discussion.
8.2. Bobber Water Tower Lease— Chamber of Commerce
The City Clerk indicated that the Chamber currently leases the water
tower and old Chamber building from the City. The Chamber subleases
the Chamber building and uses the lease money for upkeep of the bobber
water tower. The Chamber pays the City $150 per month to be put aside
for the demolition of the water tower, should it become necessary. The
Clerk noted that the Chamber is requesting to keep the $150 per month
and that the Chamber would then be responsible for the demolition of the
water tower. The Council discussed the issue.
COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED THAT THE OBLIGATION OF THE
DEMOLITION OF THE WATER TOWER REMAIN WITH THE CITY AND
THAT THAT CHAMBER CONTINUE TO PAY THE CITY THE $150 FOR
THIS PURPOSE AND THAT THE CHAMBER CONTINUE TO USE THE
LEASE REVENUE FROM THE OLD CHAMBER BUILDING FOR THE
UPKEEP OF THE BOBBER WATER TOWER. COUNCIL MEMBER
BOLZ-ANDOLSHEK SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-
1-1.
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD OPPOSED AND COUNCIL MEMBER
JOHNSON ABSTAINED.
