Pequot Lakes-Hwy 371 North
October 8, 2004
City should do some investigation/exploration(cost unknown)to determine whether it
requires any work. They also need to consider possible relocation or casing it.
For the purposes of estimating a cost to the City,I will assume 600 feet of casing pipe will
need to be installed (excavation of existing sanitary sewer, installation of a `split' casing
pipe, `welding' of the `split' casing pipe, and backfilling) at $150 per foot for a total of
$90,000.
37. The City is aware it has a watermain about 15 feet(this is an estimated dimension)within
and paralleling the east R/W line of TH 371 from Front Street to Sibley Street next to the
UBC (a distance of about 600 feet).
As this watermain is shown on old plans(1960's vintage),its condition and whether or not it
is even in a casing pipe is unknown. The City will have to do some investigation/exploration
(cost unknown)to determine the answers to these questions.
We understand that MnDOT now(even if they didn't when this watermain was originally
installed)requires pressure lines/watermains within their R/W to be inside casing pipes. We
also understand that this line is in the R/W by`permit' and if MnDOT needs it relocated(not
sure what feasible relocation route there is) or cased due to its highway improvements, the
City will have to bear this cost.
For the purposes of estimating a cost to the City, I will assume 600 feet of casing pipe
will need to be installed(excavation of existing watermain, installation of a `split' casing
pipe, `welding' of the `split' casing pipe, and backfilling) at$150 per foot for a total of
$90,000.
38. The City understands that as a part of this project, MnDOT will handle the highway storm
drainage as well as storm sewers presently connected to the storm sewer system within the
TH 371 R/W.
The City, while they have not done a complete inventory, has an interest in partnering with
MnDOT on obtaining additional urban storm drainage capacity within the new TH 371 storm
sewer system.
Related to both storm drainage and aesthetics, it is understood that the UBC location may
become a stormwater infiltration basin. The City would like to work with MnDOT on the
aesthetics of such a basin so it is an enhancement.
Sibley Street - North City Limits 11.4 miles }
39. The City is curious if the present Paul Bunyan Trail bridge north of town has a long enough
span to go over the new highway improvements.
CAMy Documents\City CIerMIGHWAY 371\Comments to MnDOT-100804memo.doc
