Due to rising insurance costs, the committee is requesting the Council to consider
increasing its contribution to a percentage amount, while being sensitive to those
who do not take the insurance but take the$375 in cash.
Dental Insurance
The Committee has received prices for dental insurance. The cost would be about
$35 per month for single employees and $85 for family. The only catch here is we
would need at least five participants. We would recommend offering this to
employees but requiring the employees to pay for the premium.
CONCLUSION
We need to sign the contract to renew with BCBS by July 15.
We would like the Council to consider increasing its contribution toward health
insurance premiums to make health insurance affordable for the Pequot Lakes
employees.
After an employee meeting on the issue, the employees are recommending to move
to the Single/Family Plan and to ask the Council to pay $375 plus 85% of the
remaining premium. It was also the consensus of the employees that the $375
. continues to be offered to those employees receiving the benefit. However, new
employees would not be eligible for the $375 benefit if they choose to not take the
insurance.
The Committee also met with two Council members on this issue. The Council
members presented another scenario whereby the City would pick up the single
coverage of$480 for each employee and possibly consider paying one-half of the
balance of the family coverage which would be another$85.50. These numbers will
be handed out to the Council at the meeting.
