Consider Appointments to Planning and Zoning Board Mayor Malecha informed the Council that the City received 4 requests for appointment to the Planning Commission by the February 27th deadline that was published in the Echo and two requests after the February 27th deadline. She recommended that the Council appoint the four applicants who responded by February 27th. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO APPOINT THE FOLLOWING TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION: JOHN DERKSEN, BILL HABEIN, MARK HALAN, AND SHARON THURLOW. COUNCIL MEMBER JOHNSON SECONDED THE MOTION. ROLL CALL VOTE: —T. RYAN- NAY, M. PFEIFFER, NAY, J. JOHNSON, AYE, C. MALECHA—AYE, D. SJOBLAD —AYE, J. BOLZ/ANDOLSHEK— NAY, J. AKERSON — NAY. MOTION FAILED 3-4. Council Member Pfeiffer stated that applicant Sharon Thurlow was already on the HRA. Council Member Ryan indicated that the newspaper ad for the positions had a factual error and further indicated that he would like to know more about each candidate prior to making a decision. COUNCIL MEMBER BOLZ-ANDOLSHEK MOVED TO EXTEND THE CURRENT TERMS THAT ARE ABOUT TO EXPIRE FOR 30 DAYS AND TO TABLE THE ISSUE FOR 30 DAYS. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN MOVED TO AMEND THE MOTION TO READVERTISE FOR THE POSITIONS THAT ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE AMENDMENT PASSED 6-1. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD OPPOSED. THE MOTION AS AMENDED CARRIED 6-1. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD OPPOSED. 5.4. Planning and Zoning Commission Minutes— 2/26/04 Mayor Malecha indicated that at the 2/26/04 Planning Commission meeting, the Commission requested a special meeting of the City Council to discuss the highway effects on the comprehensive plan.
