Box 361 <br /> Pequot Lakes,MN 56472 <br /> Re: Highway 37.1 <br /> Dear Mayor and Council Members: <br /> 1 am writing this letter to you on my own behalf to share some of my thoughts on the proposed <br /> 1�-, Highway 371 road construction and improvement alternatives. I am both a business and property <br /> owner within the City of Pequot Lakes. As 1 understand it you are considering a (1) through <br /> town option and a(2)bypass option. <br /> I have reviewed the preliminary plans for both proposals and have read most of the published <br /> articles and comment on the manor in addition to speaking with both business owners and <br /> residents of the City. My opinion is that the through town option is the best option for the City <br /> for a number of reasons. Thosc reasons are as follows: <br /> • The State of Minnesota curirntly has sufficient right of way to improve the current <br /> road through town. I am assuming the State acquired sufficient right of way in the <br /> past in anticipation of future road improvements for this area for the current location <br /> of the Highway. It would seem to be a waste of taxpayers' dollars to acquire <br /> additional right of way that is not necessary. <br /> • The through town option seems to be the most cost elTecti ve for both the State and the <br /> City. Again 1 am assuming that the through town option would cost less which 1 think <br /> is a fair assumption. <br /> • Both business owners and residents, and banks for that matter, have invested in real <br /> estate and businesses for many years with the idea that Highway 371 would be located <br /> in its current location for years to come, including improvements to the Highway <br /> necessitated by growth and use of the road. Location for both commercial and <br /> residential properties is a very important decision and it in large part is dictated by the <br />
